Hammurabi is undoubtedly the best rulers
of Babylon. He is the 6th king of the
first dynasty of rulers of Babylon. Some
even say that Babylonian kingdom started
with Hammurabi.
Hammurabi's reign in
Babylon is believed to have been by
around 1792-1750 BC. He extended his
empire to the Euphrates and Tigris
valleys northward and till Mediterranean
sea westwards. After extending his
empire, he is believed to have taken
care of the administration in an
outstanding manner. He personally took
care of the irrigation, agriculture, tax
administration, navigation etc.,
The best work of Hammurabi
to date is his Code of Hammurabi.
This contains the laws and rules for the
citizens of Babylonian kingdom. This
codifies the conduct, justice, basic
laws to be followed in Babylon and was
widely put for public notice. This
proposes an "eye for eye"
punishment for any offences. The text of
these laws were partly unearthed by
around 1901 AD and a lot of the material
prior to this were not found. | |
